ARTPOP BY CAVANAGH

“Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” Andy WARHOL

ArtPop is an urban scale art project that seeks to liberate the arts from traditional museological forms of display. We believe that the arts have a remarkable ability to act as a tool for social and political critique, something that everybody should be welcome to engage in.

After studying existing typologies for art galleries and museums, it is clear current visions of how art is displayed is intimidating and inaccessible to many. Traditional galleries are often housed in architecturally dominant and imposing buildings riddled with unspoken rules and formalities.

ArtPop is a proposal to make the arts approachable and attractive to people previously excluded from the arts. ArtPop is a working concept that is looking at creating a precinct of pop-up arts spaces throughout Sydney. The primary goal for each pop-up will be to establish an accessible space that welcomes all.Pop-ups will vary in scale, with some being small gestures such as a print applied to a roller door and others large scale outdoor installations or warehouse performances.

ArtPop will also endeavour to select, curate and display a diverse range of arts, artists and creators.

We are seeking artists whose work needs to be seen by the public. If this sounds like you, please use the below form to tell us a little about your work.
